Coyote's Guide to IDL Programming was established in 1996 by David Fanning, who prior to then was the Directory of Training at Research Systems (now ITTVIS), the creators of IDL. The purpose of the web page was to create a resource for people who wanted to learn more about IDL programming. The site has become the number one resource site in the world for IDL programmers. David is the author of IDL Programming Techniques, 2nd Edition, and Coyote's Guide to Traditional IDL Graphics: Using Familiar Tools Creatively.
